Flutterby 1

A collection of what’s winged its way across my path and got me thinking, grinning and gearing up.

Inspired by Jill Salahub’s lovely Something Good feature, I’m launching a weekly roundup of the articles, videos, books and media that strike my fancy in a given week. It’s stuff that makes me smile, ponder, cheer and want to share.

Why Walking Helps Us Think: I used to think walking was simply a slow substitute for the heart-pumping workout I didn’t quite get to. Turns out it can make you a better writer.

An Invitation to Live, Really Live on Hands Free Mama: As a writer, I found this post by Rachel Macy Stafford at Hands Free Mama just beautiful: “My friends, there is something to be said for waking up with an urgency to finish what you started … to live like you might possibly perish today. There is something to be said for acknowledging that time is indeed limited…Procrastination doesn’t have a chance when a heart decides what it must do before it stops beating.”

Truthbombs: These brief nuggets by Danielle Laporte are like little slivers of magical moonlight.

Headspace: Meditation made simple. I’m telling you, if I can do it, you can do it. It’s made a real, daily difference for me in terms of setting intentions, observing my mood and making an effort to find the blue sky.

Taylor Swift Singing Shake It Off: I’m an Alt Rock girl through and through, but I can’t get enough of this supremely pop song. Taylor’s endearing dorkiness in the video makes it even better.

Wordy Wednesdays on Defining Motherhood: Blogger Kristina Cerise calls her weekly feature a “…random collection of other people’s words that impacted me this week as well as a handful of new words I added to my vocabulary.” This is for you word lovers out there.

sigofallElizabeth Gilbert’s Facebook Page: Anyone who knows me knows I’m one of the few people in the universe who did not enjoy Eat, Pray, Love. Fast forward many, many years and I am absolutely in love with Elizabeth Gilbert via her Facebook page. I find inspiration and authenticity in almost every one of her posts and I can’t wait to read her new book, The Signature of All Things. I might even give Eat, Pray, Love another try.

Before Learning to Crawl, You Must Learn to Swim: Three-year-old Lilah started taking swim lessons this summer and it’s the cutest thing to watch. These underwater photos of babies learning water survival techniques are almost as cute.

12 Kid Venues That Need Open Bars: I love Scary Mommy and I love my hilarious, real life friend Stacy. Put them together and kapow! This is Stacy’s first published piece, so give her some love.

Outlander1Outlander on Starz: In a word, this new series is hot. Based on the books by Diana Gabaldon, Outlander is the first television show I’ve ever watched that is almost entirely geared to women’s viewing pleasure. Hallelujah! My personal favorite episode so far is The Wedding and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone.

  2. Love this new feature! Thanks for the shout out (it made me get my act together and get a post done).

  3. So many wonderful things to check out – thank you! Of course, some of them I already swear by: hello Taylor, Claire and Jamie (and who can not love an actor whose name is Catriona?). Dunnno about the meditation though… 🙂

    • Thanks N! I can’t stop singing Shake It Off and I literally fall asleep thinking about Jamie and Claire. *Sigh* Also, meditation is awesome. I promise.
